Paris Saint-Germain are holding active talks with Atletico Madrid regarding a blockbuster transfer for Julian Alvarez. Spanish media report that discussions between the clubs have been ongoing for some time, with the French champions prepared to pay more than €150 million for the Argentine striker.
This valuation would effectively remove Barcelona from the running. The Catalan club have maintained interest in Alvarez but operate with a budget of around €100 million. They had hoped the player would force a move by submitting a formal transfer request, which would strengthen their negotiating position.
Despite external interest, Atletico Madrid remain determined to retain their forward. Club officials have prepared a new contract offering Alvarez a substantial wage increase. The proposal awaits his signature, and the deal could be finalised before the World Cup begins this summer.
PSG manager Luis Enrique has specifically identified Alvarez as a priority target. Earlier reports indicated that the Spaniard, along with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, had held direct conversations with the 26-year-old. However, only PSG have now progressed to active negotiations with Atletico.
Alvarez faces a crucial decision ahead of the tournament. He must choose between extending his stay in Madrid or accepting a move to Paris. His representatives are currently evaluating both options as the transfer window approaches.
