- Luis Enrique insists the problem is likely fatigue rather than serious damage
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has eased concerns regarding Ousmane Dembélé’s fitness after the forward was forced off during Sunday’s Ligue 1 finale against Paris FC. The France international appeared to sustain a thigh injury during the first half of the contest.
The 29-year-old striker was withdrawn prematurely and replaced by Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos. Dembélé headed straight for the dressing room rather than taking his place on the substitutes’ bench, sparking fears among supporters.
The incident has raised alarm bells ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s biggest match of the season. The French champions are set to face Arsenal in the Champions League final on Saturday, May 30.
Addressing the media following the victory, Luis Enrique provided an update on his star attacker. The Spanish coach confirmed that medical examinations will take place on Monday to assess the full extent of the issue.
“I think it is just fatigue,” Luis Enrique explained during his press conference. “What we are saying today is merely speculation, but I do not believe it is anything serious. We still have two weeks left.”
The winger has also been named in Didier Deschamps’ latest France squad for upcoming international fixtures.
