Olivier Giroud has suggested he could extend his stay at Lille OSC despite approaching his 40th birthday. The France international, who holds the record for most goals scored for his country, sees his current contract expire at the end of this season.

The seasoned centre-forward joined Les Dogues without a transfer fee at the start of the campaign. He has since made 44 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals. This tally includes four strikes during their European campaign in the UEFA Europa League. In domestic league action, the veteran has started half of Lille’s matches, with his most recent goal coming in a 4-0 victory against Toulouse FC on April 12th.

Following the club’s confirmation of Champions League football for next season, questions regarding Giroud’s future have intensified. The striker will turn 40 in September, leading to speculation about potential retirement.

However, speaking to Ligue 1 Plus after Sunday’s fixture, Giroud indicated he is not ready to stop. He explained that he feels comfortable at the club and is pleased with his contribution this season. He suggested that contentment in his current environment means he does not need to seek opportunities elsewhere.

The former Chelsea man confirmed that discussions are underway regarding a possible extension. He revealed that negotiations are ongoing, though no agreement is final. He maintained that he intends to keep playing as long as he remains physically fit, asking why he should not continue if his body allows.
