Inter Milan are preparing a major overhaul of their midfield this summer. The Italian club have set their sights on two key targets. They want to sign Manu Koné from AS Roma and Curtis Jones from Liverpool. This plan comes as Cristian Chivu looks to rebuild the squad.

The expected departure of Davide Frattesi has created a gap in the centre of the pitch. Chivu has identified Koné as his main domestic target. The French midfielder joined Roma from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2024. That transfer cost €18 million plus bonuses. Since then, he has made 81 appearances for the Giallorossi. He has scored four goals and provided six assists.

Koné is under contract until June 2029. He earns €2.8 million net per season. However, Roma may agree to sell him. The club needs to raise funds to comply with financial fair play rules.

Inter tried to sign the 23-year-old last August. That attempt was not successful. Now they are ready to try again on Chivu’s advice. The deal could involve a swap arrangement. Roma might receive Carlos Augusto or Frattesi in exchange. This would suit both clubs ahead of the new season.

Signing Koné would not stop Inter from pursuing Jones. The Liverpool midfielder is also on their list. Jones is contracted to Anfield until June 2027. He earns just €500,000 net per year. This modest wage makes the transfer very straightforward for Inter to complete.

Both Koné and Jones share the same birth year of 2001. Inter prefer to sign players who are in their prime. The club views Jones as a complement to Koné. He would not be a replacement. The two could play together in the same midfield.

Inter had also held interest in Nico Paz. The Argentine currently plays for Como. However, Real Madrid plan to repurchase him for €10 million this summer. They will then decide his next destination. This complication makes Jones a more realistic option for the Nerazzurri.

The summer window promises significant changes at Inter. Supporters will watch closely as Chivu constructs his new-look engine room.
