RC Deportivo La Coruña will compete in La Liga next season for the first time since 2018. The historic Spanish club secured their promotion from the Segunda División this weekend following a successful campaign under head coach Antonio Hidalgo.

The team confirmed their place in the top flight after winning 2-0 away at Real Valladolid on Sunday evening. This result, combined with Almería’s defeat at Sporting Gijón, made certain that Deportivo would finish inside the automatic promotion places. It marks the end of an eight-year wait for supporters who have watched their club struggle since relegation at the close of the 2017-18 campaign.

Deportivo join Racing Club de Santander in securing direct promotion to the 2026-27 La Liga season. Santander confirmed their return to the elite level last weekend, leaving just one automatic promotion position still available. That final spot will be decided on the last day of the season, while four additional teams will enter the promotion playoffs to contest the twentieth place in the top division.

The return of Deportivo brings back one of Spanish football’s most atmospheric venues. Riazor Stadium will once again host clashes against giants such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Additionally, supporters can look forward to the revival of the Galician derby, with heated local meetings against Celta Vigo returning to the schedule.

Although promotion is secured, the title race remains open. Deportivo could still finish as champions, but they must defeat Las Palmas at home in their final match and hope that Racing Santander lose to Cádiz. Meanwhile, six clubs including Almería, Málaga, Las Palmas, Castellón, Burgos and Eibar remain in contention for the remaining playoff positions, ensuring a dramatic conclusion to the Segunda División season.
