While Gor Mahia sprayed champagne in Homa Bay, tears flowed at Kericho Green Stadium. AFC Leopards had just lost 2-1 to APS Bomet. This defeat handed the FKF Premier League trophy to their bitter rivals with one game left.

Fred Ambani was furious. The Leopards head coach aimed his anger at the match official. He claimed centre referee Oyoo Diego made terrible decisions during the crucial clash.

Ambani argued that Diego failed to award a clear penalty. He pointed to a foul on Hassan Beja inside the box. The coach also questioned why the federation selected this particular referee. He suggested the official’s tribal background influenced the result.

“We cannot grow our game with such poor standards,” Ambani stated. He explained that referees must remain fair for all teams. The former striker said he rarely complains about officials. However, he called this performance unacceptable.

Phillip Wasai scored twice for APS Bomet. He struck in the 60th and 63rd minutes. Daniel Odhiambo added an own goal for Leopards late in the match. These goals ended Ingwe’s hopes of catching the leaders.

The 12-time champions sat second with 64 points before kick-off. They trailed Gor Mahia by four points. Victory would have kept the pressure on the 21-time champions. Instead, Gor claimed the crown while resting at the weekend.

Leopards now face Bidco United in a dead rubber next Sunday. Bidco have already faced relegation. Meanwhile, Gor Mahia still face Mara Sugar and Nairobi United to finish their campaign.
