Romelu Lukaku has declared his commitment to Napoli. The Belgium international says he will remain at the Serie A club until his contract finishes in 2027.

The striker spoke to RTBF about recent problems with the Italian side. In March, Lukaku stayed in Belgium during the international break. He did this without permission from Napoli. He wanted to recover from injury away from the club.

“They were exaggerated,” Lukaku said. “I did not come to Belgium for a holiday. I wanted to become the best version of myself again quickly.”

The club fined Lukaku and removed him from the team. However, they later allowed him to continue training in his home country. The 31-year-old returned to Naples three weeks ago.

“Everything is good now,” he explained. “You understand why I acted that way. My love for the club remains intact. I have one year left on my contract. I am a Napoli player. I am not the type of person who asks to leave.”

Lukaku also spoke about his physical condition. He feels stronger now than before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He admitted he was not fit enough for that tournament.

Injuries have limited Lukaku this season. A serious muscle problem during pre-season meant he played only 64 minutes for the Partenopei. He has scored one goal in seven appearances.
