  • Mason Greenwood’s representative has approved a potential switch to AS Roma this summer.
  • Olympique de Marseille have set a €55 million price tag for the English forward.
  • New Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini intends to speak directly with the player about the project.
  • The Italian side may need to sell Matías Soulé to Aston Villa to finance the deal.
  • Strong relations exist between the two clubs following previous transfer business.

AS Roma have moved a step closer to securing Mason Greenwood’s signature after the player’s father and agent gave the go-ahead for a transfer to the Italian capital. The Serie A outfit have marked the forward as a priority acquisition for the upcoming campaign.

Reports from Italy indicate that Andrew Greenwood, who oversees his son’s career matters, has accepted Rome as a suitable destination for the 22-year-old. This development comes as newly appointed coach Gian Piero Gasperini prepares to contact the player personally to outline his sporting vision.

Marseille purchased Greenwood from Manchester United last summer. The Ligue 1 club now value the attacker at €55 million following an impressive debut season at the Stade Vélodrome. They remain willing to negotiate but expect a substantial fee.

The two clubs enjoy a healthy working relationship. They recently completed a €25 million transaction involving young striker Robinio Vaz during the winter transfer window. This existing rapport could help facilitate smooth discussions.

Nevertheless, Roma must first generate funds. The club reportedly plans to offload Argentine winger Matías Soulé to Aston Villa for a fee between €35 million and €40 million. This departure would create the financial space required to meet Marseille’s valuation.
