Wolverhampton Wanderers have won the race to sign experienced full-back Kieran Trippier. The 35-year-old will move to Molineux on a free transfer this summer after ending his four-year stay at Newcastle United.

The former England international has accepted a contract that runs for two seasons. The agreement also contains an option for an additional year. He will link up with Rob Edwards’ squad as the club seeks an immediate return to the Premier League.

The deal remains subject to a medical assessment. This will take place when the defender returns from a family break next week. Several continental clubs had expressed interest in recruiting the veteran right-back. However, the Midlands outfit fended off this competition to secure his signature.

Trippier originally joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in January 2022. During his time on Tyneside, he made 160 appearances across all competitions. He also played a crucial role in the Magpies’ Carabao Cup triumph last year.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recently praised the defender’s contribution. He highlighted Trippier’s bravery in signing during a relegation battle. The coach also recalled the team’s successful Champions League qualification campaign as a standout period for the player.
