Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has been forced to make late changes to his squad. The South African manager announced adjustments just before the team enters residential training camp.
The national team is preparing for two friendly matches on June 4th and 7th. These games form part of Kenya’s long-term plan for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Kenya will host this tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
Striker Ryan Ogam, midfielder Job Ochieng, and goalkeeper Byrne Omondi have all left the squad. Their departures came at short notice due to unexpected problems. This situation has opened doors for new players to join the camp.
Brian Bwire from Polokwane City will now guard the goalposts. He joins Faruk Shikhalo and Caleb Kramer from ADO Den Haag in the goalkeeping department. Experienced defender Amos Nondi also returns to strengthen the back line.
The most exciting addition is midfielder Kelly Madada from AFC Leopards. The player earned his place after an excellent season in the Kenyan Premier League. Scouts noticed his technical skills and creativity during domestic matches.
McCarthy’s squad mixes young talent with experienced campaigners. Erick Ouma provides defensive stability while Sydney Agina represents the new generation. In attack, Austine Odhiambo and Hull City forward Sammy Hena-Kamau will lead the line.
The coach wants to build a strong team culture before 2027. These friendlies give new players a chance to prove themselves. The technical bench hopes to find players with the right character for major tournaments.
