German defender Hauke Wahl has moved closer to joining VfL Wolfsburg. The 32-year-old has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga outfit.
Sources indicate the centre-back has settled on contract details with the Lower-Saxony club. However, the two clubs have not yet finalised a transfer fee.
Wahl currently plays for FC St. Pauli. The Hamburg-based side recently dropped to the second tier. They hold a strong position in negotiations because the player’s contract runs until 2028.
Leading German publication Kicker claims an agreement is close. Meanwhile, Sport BILD reports that Wolfsburg may need to pay more than one million euros to secure the defender.
Last season, the experienced centre-back started 30 league matches. He scored one goal and provided two assists during the campaign.
According to Transfermarkt, Wahl holds a market value of €1.5 million. If the transfer happens, he will become the first signing under new manager Tobias Strobl.
