- Blessin had kept the Hamburg side in the top flight during their first season back
FC St. Pauli have removed Alexander Blessin from his position as head coach. The decision comes after the club suffered relegation from the German top flight.
The Hamburg outfit confirmed the move following a detailed review of their 2025/26 season. Officials decided that a change in the dugout was necessary ahead of the new campaign.
Sporting director Andreas Bornemann issued a statement regarding the sacking. He thanked Blessin for his dedication over the past two years.
“Alex worked with real passion during his time here,” Bornemann said. “When we earned promotion, he changed our style to compete in the Bundesliga. This helped us avoid the drop in our first season back.”
Bornemann admitted that Blessin possesses strong coaching credentials. However, he stressed that the board felt a clean break was required.
“We do not question Alex’s quality as a manager. Even so, our review showed that a fresh start this summer is the right path. We part ways with gratitude and wish him success,” Bornemann concluded.
