Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan. The La Liga club will pay €20 million to activate the release clause in the defender’s current contract. The transfer will become official when the summer window opens in July.
The 30-year-old has already undergone medical tests with the Spanish side. These examinations took place while he was away with his national team squad.
Dumfries spent five seasons at the San Siro. He played a key role as Inter won both the Serie A championship and the Coppa Italia during the 2025-26 campaign under manager Cristian Chivu.
Inter are now searching for a successor. The club has made Marco Palestra from Atalanta their primary target. The young Italian defender enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Cagliari last season. His form earned him a first senior call-up for Italy in March 2026.
However, securing Palestra’s signature will prove expensive. Atalanta value the 21-year-old at close to €50 million. The player remains under contract with the Bergamo club until June 2029.
Coach Chivu refuses to discuss specific transfer targets publicly. He insists that the club has prepared multiple options for every position. The Romanian manager wants to combine homegrown talent with experienced signings.
Inter face a demanding schedule next term. They hope to retain their domestic titles and progress further in the Champions League after exiting early last season.
