France manager Didier Deschamps has calmed fears over William Saliba’s fitness ahead of the World Cup. The Arsenal defender suffered from a back problem, but the national team boss insists the centre-back will be ready for action.
Speaking to Téléfoot, Deschamps revealed that his entire squad of 26 players remains available. This includes Saliba, who has carried the injury for weeks yet still played every game for his club.
“He’s being looked after by the medical staff. We’re also managing him based on how he feels,” Deschamps explained. The manager noted the issue has not stopped the player from performing for Arsenal.
Les Bleus face Senegal in their opening match in nine days time. Deschamps plans to use Saliba alongside Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano at the heart of the defence.
The news brings relief to both French supporters and Arsenal fans. They hope to see the Premier League winner return to the pitch soon and play a key role in the tournament.
