Hamburger SV are poised to complete the signing of French-Moroccan midfielder Bilal Nadir following a successful medical examination on Thursday. The 22-year-old, who has been without a club since departing Olympique de Marseille earlier this summer, will reportedly commit to a contract running until 2030 and is scheduled to join the German club’s training sessions on Friday.

The Nice-born central midfielder became a free agent after refusing to extend his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit. His departure from Marseille marks the end of a three-year association with the club, during which he developed from an OGC Nice prospect into a seasoned top-flight player.

Nadir joined Marseille from his hometown club in 2021. Across his time at the Stade Vélodrome, he accumulated 40 appearances in France’s top division, operating primarily as a central midfielder. His experience in Ligue 1 is expected to prove valuable as he transitions to German football with the second-tier club.

Six-year deal signals intent

The proposed contract until 2030 represents a significant long-term investment in the young midfielder. Such a lengthy agreement suggests Hamburg’s hierarchy view Nadir as a foundational piece of their squad rebuilding efforts rather than a short-term solution.

His immediate availability for training on Friday allows manager Tim Walter to begin integrating the player swiftly. The rapid progression from medical to pitch availability indicates both parties are eager to commence work ahead of the competitive season.

Arsenal negotiations ongoing

Nadir’s arrival coincides with continued efforts to secure further reinforcements. HSV remain in negotiations with Arsenal regarding a potential move for Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira.

The German club are reportedly hopeful of achieving a breakthrough in those separate discussions. While Nadir’s transfer appears imminent following his medical, any deal for Vieira remains contingent upon successful talks between Hamburg and the North London club.

The dual pursuit demonstrates Hamburg’s ambition to strengthen multiple areas of their squad as they target a return to the Bundesliga. Nadir’s proven durability and Ligue 1 pedigree provide immediate competition for places in midfield, while the potential addition of Vieira would offer additional creativity in advanced positions.
