FC Bayern Munich are monitoring 16-year-old Georgian winger Tornike Kvaratskhelia but cannot finalise any transfer until he turns 18 due to FIFA regulations restricting the signing of non-EU minors.
The Bundesliga club recently invited the Dinamo Tbilisi prospect to their Säbener Straße training ground, where he trained with the senior squad. Bayern executives have been impressed by the teenager’s recent performances in European competition.
European Stage Breakthrough
Kvaratskhelia starred as Dinamo Tbilisi defeated Lithuanian outfit Žalgiris 3-0 in the UEFA Conference League preliminary qualifiers, securing progression to the next round. The 16-year-old attacker was singled out as one of the standout players during the tie.
His displays have drawn inevitable comparisons with older brother Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Paris Saint-Germain forward.
Coach’s Assessment
Dinamo Tbilisi manager Temur Kezbaia offered a glowing but measured appraisal of his young charge following the European fixture.
“I’m happy with Tornike. He has already shown that he can play great football. He’s 16 years old, training hard, but he’s not ready for 90 minutes yet. He was often fouled, but was still one of the best,” Kezbaia stated.
Regulatory Hurdle
Current FIFA transfer rules prevent clubs from completing international transfers involving players under 18 from non-EU nations. With Kvaratskhelia aged 16, Bayern must wait approximately two years before they can formally secure his signature.
The Bavarian giants view the Georgian as a long-term investment rather than immediate first-team material, continuing to monitor his development from afar until he reaches the regulatory age threshold.
