VfB Stuttgart are pursuing a double attacking reinforcement ahead of their return to the Champions League, with the Bundesliga club targeting VfL Wolfsburg striker Dženan Pejčinović and Feyenoord winger Leo Sauer.
The club’s supervisory board has approved the necessary transfer budget for both deals, although any arrivals remain contingent on the club first generating substantial funds through outgoing transfers.
Pejčinović negotiations lead the way
Stuttgart are furthest along in their pursuit of Pejčinović. The 21-year-old striker has been identified as a priority target, with the club expected to submit an improved offer of €22 million in the coming days. Wolfsburg are reportedly holding out for €25 million.
According to reports, personal terms have already been agreed between Stuttgart and the player on a contract running until 2030. This puts the Bundesliga side in a strong position should they meet Wolfsburg’s valuation, though the €3 million gap between offer and asking price remains to be bridged.
Sauer competition intensifies
The situation regarding Sauer is less advanced. The 20-year-old Slovakia international, who has already earned 11 senior caps, has reportedly agreed personal terms with fellow Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim. Portuguese champions Benfica are also monitoring the winger’s situation.
Feyenoord could demand up to €10 million for Sauer, an increase on earlier reports suggesting a fee around €7 million. With Hoffenheim seemingly ahead in personal negotiations, Stuttgart face a challenge to redirect the player’s attention to their Champions League project.
Sales required before signings confirmed
Stuttgart’s ability to complete either deal depends heavily on player sales. The supervisory board’s approval of the transfer budget is conditional on significant outgoings, meaning the club must first offload existing squad members before securing these attacking reinforcements.
As Stuttgart prepare for life among Europe’s elite, the club appears determined to add youthful attacking depth. Pejčinović represents a long-term investment with his proposed contract until 2030, while Sauer offers international experience despite his age. However, neither deal is imminent until the club resolves its outgoing transfer business.
