TSG Hoffenheim are reportedly weighing up a move for Feyenoord winger Leo Sauer as they seek to replace Bazoumana Touré, who recently joined Newcastle United in a €50 million deal.

According to reports in Germany, the Bundesliga side have identified the Slovakian as a potential solution following Touré’s high-profile switch to the Premier League. Feyenoord are understood to be demanding €7 million for the attacker, who remains contracted to the Rotterdam club until 2028.

Different profile

Sauer presents a different profile to the player he would potentially replace. Whilst Touré is described as a speedy Ivorian international, Sauer is predominantly right-footed and operates primarily as a wide midfielder or winger.

The Slovakia international’s statistics from the previous campaign show four goals and two assists across 26 appearances in the Dutch top flight. These numbers suggest a player capable of contributing in the final third whilst offering width.

Alternatives under consideration

However, Hoffenheim are not putting all their eggs in one basket. The club are understood to be monitoring several candidates to fill the vacancy created by Touré’s exit, indicating that Sauer’s signature is far from guaranteed.

The financial aspects of any deal could prove negotiable given Sauer’s lengthy contract, which secures Feyenoord’s position in discussions. With his current deal running until 2028, the Eredivisie club are under no obligation to accept initial offers.

For Hoffenheim, securing a suitable replacement for Touré represents a priority following the midfielder’s impressive development and subsequent lucrative sale. Whether Sauer proves to be the answer remains to be seen as the German club continue to assess their options.
