Qatari side Al-Rayyan have approached former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho with a formal offer, according to Foot Mercato. The 26-year-old became a free agent in early July following his departure from Old Trafford.
The Doha-based club are keen to secure the England international’s signature as they look to strengthen their attacking options. However, Sancho faces a significant decision over his next move, with a potential return to Borussia Dortmund also being mooted.
The London-born forward spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Aston Villa, where he made 39 appearances across all competitions under manager Unai Emery. Despite starting 18 matches, Sancho contributed just one goal and three assists during his temporary spell in the Midlands. These figures reflect a continued struggle for consistency that has plagued the player since his high-profile transfer.
United initially signed Sancho for €85 million in the summer of 2021 after a prolonged pursuit. During four years in Manchester, he managed 12 goals and six assists in 81 outings—returns that fell well short of expectations given his prolific record in Germany. His relationship with the club deteriorated during the 2024-25 campaign, leading to his eventual release.
The approach from Al-Rayyan comes shortly after Sancho entered the free market. While the financial package in Qatar may prove lucrative, the prospect of reuniting with Dortmund—where he previously established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting wide players—offers an alternative route back to form. Sancho must now weigh immediate security against the opportunity to resurrect his career at the highest level of the European game.
