Aston Villa have emerged as the leading Premier League suitors for Roma midfielder Neil El Aynaoui as they seek a replacement for Youri Tielemans, who completed a €41 million transfer to Manchester United earlier this summer.
The Midlands club have reportedly dispatched scouts to monitor the 22-year-old Moroccan international on several occasions and have been impressed by his work rate and aggressive approach. While teammate Manu Koné attracted significant attention with his performances for France at the 2026 World Cup, El Aynaoui also enhanced his reputation with strong displays for Morocco on the global stage.
Rapid appreciation in value
Roma invested €23.5 million plus add-ons to acquire El Aynaoui from RC Lens only last summer, with the deal including a percentage of any future sale fee for the French club. Following 34 competitive appearances for the Giallorossi, during which he contributed two goals and two assists, reports suggest his valuation has effectively doubled.
This sharp increase reflects both his adaptation to Italian football and his World Cup contributions. While several Premier League clubs are understood to be monitoring his progress, Villa are currently the side most actively tracking the midfielder.
Financial considerations
Any potential transfer would require Villa to pay a substantial premium on Roma’s initial outlay. The Italian side hold a strong negotiating position given they only signed the player 12 months ago, while Lens stand to benefit from any sell-on agreement.
Villa possess the financial capacity to fund the move utilising the €41m generated from Tielemans’ sale. However, formal negotiations have not yet commenced, and the presence of rival English interest could yet complicate Villa’s pursuit of the Moroccan.
