AS Roma are willing to sell midfielder Manu Koné this summer to improve their financial position following a dispute with European football’s governing body. The Italian club received a €6m penalty from UEFA for breaching a settlement agreement, prompting a review of their transfer strategy.
Koné, who is 25 and French, has emerged as a viable asset to balance the books. The midfielder is tied to the club until 2029, meaning a transfer could raise approximately €55m. Such a deal would also free Roma from his estimated €5.2m gross annual salary and €3.8m in contract amortisation costs.
Premier League Interest
Manchester United are understood to be the most interested party in securing Koné’s signature. The Red Devils have identified the former Toulouse FC player as a target following his performances at international level.
Chelsea are also tracking the French international and could enter the race to sign him. Both English clubs are monitoring the situation as Roma assess their options ahead of the new season.
2025-26 Performance
Koné featured regularly for the Giallorossi during the 2025-26 campaign, making 37 appearances across all competitions. He contributed directly to five goals, scoring twice and creating three assists for his teammates.
While no formal bids have been confirmed, the combination of Roma’s financial constraints and Premier League interest suggests the midfielder could be available for the right price. The coming weeks will determine whether Manchester United or Chelsea formalise their interest with an official approach.
