Roma stall on Ezzalzouli interest as Betis demand €60m
Roma have cooled their pursuit of Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli after learning that the Spanish club value the Morocco international at €60 million. The Serie A side consider this figure prohibitive, despite identifying the 24-year-old as a strong alternative to primary target Antonio Nusa of RB Leipzig.
Initial approaches for Ezzalzouli were made last week, according to Il Tempo reporter Filippo Biafora. However, journalist Matteo Moretto indicates that confirmation of the €60m asking price would effectively end Roma’s interest, placing the player beyond their current budget.
Premier League competition intensifies
The winger’s situation is further complicated by interest from the Premier League. Both Aston Villa and Newcastle United have made enquiries about Ezzalzouli this summer, attracted by his versatility across the front line. The Morocco international is comfortable operating on either flank, offering tactical flexibility that appeals to clubs in multiple leagues.
Ezzalzouli’s stock has risen following an impressive season in Spain. He registered 15 goals and provided 13 assists in 43 competitive appearances for Real Betis, demonstrating the end product that has drawn attention from several major European clubs.
Injury setback and prior interest
Any potential move may depend on medical assessments, as the player currently nurses a knee injury. He sustained the problem during a pre-World Cup friendly against Norway, forcing his withdrawal from Morocco’s squad for the tournament in North America.
This summer marks the second consecutive window in which Ezzalzouli has been linked with Roma. The club also explored the possibility of signing him last year alongside Serie A side Como, though neither move progressed to an advanced stage.
With the transfer window progressing, Roma must now decide whether to revisit negotiations should Betis lower their demands, or focus resources on securing Nusa from Leipzig instead.
