John Stones is scheduled to arrive in Italy on Thursday 30 July to undergo a medical with Inter Milan, paving the way for the England defender to complete his free transfer from Manchester City. The 32-year-old has agreed personal terms on a two-year contract that will run until June 2028.
The deal brings to an end his decade-long association with Manchester City, where his contract was allowed to expire on 30 June. Stones departs the Etihad Stadium as a free agent after establishing himself as a key figure during his ten-year spell with the Premier League club.
Medical and Integration
The centre-back is expected to undergo his medical examinations on Thursday or Friday this week before putting pen to paper. He will earn a reported €4 million net per season during his time at the San Siro.
Stones is currently on holiday following his involvement with England at the 2026 World Cup, where the Three Lions reached the third-place final. He is unlikely to join up with the Inter squad immediately, as the Nerazzurri are currently on a pre-season training camp in Germany. He will likely meet his new teammates for the first time upon their return.
Former Colleague and Rival Interest
He will find a familiar face in Milan, with former Manchester City colleague Manuel Akanji already part of the Inter squad. The Switzerland international joined the Nerazzurri earlier in the window.
Stones had also held negotiations with Juventus, Arsenal and Chelsea before opting to join the Serie A side. His arrival on a free transfer represents a significant addition to Inter’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
