Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi has urged the club to sign a new centre-forward in the upcoming January transfer window, stating that Nick Woltemade is not the ideal strike partner for Randal Kolo Muani.
Tacchinardi’s comments follow Juventus’s recent 1-1 away draw against Cagliari on Sunday, a match where Kolo Muani scored the equaliser in the second half. Woltemade was introduced during the second half of the game.
Woltemade’s Role Questioned
Woltemade joined Juventus on loan from Newcastle less than two months ago. Despite his recent arrival, Tacchinardi believes the German forward is not the answer to the team’s attacking needs. “Kolo Muani needs another striker close to him who, to me, isn’t Woltemade, who isn’t a classic centre-forward,” Tacchinardi told Sportmediaset.
The former Bianconeri star highlighted the need for a specific type of forward to complement Kolo Muani. “So, in January, Juventus must go to market and sign a centre-forward because Kolo Muani needs someone close to him,” he added.
Woltemade has had limited opportunities since his move to Turin, starting only one game for Juventus this season. Notably, Juventus does not have an option to make his loan move permanent, suggesting his future beyond the current season is not tied to the club.
Reflecting on Cagliari Draw
The draw against Cagliari saw Juventus drop two points, despite creating numerous chances and dominating possession. Tacchinardi reflected on the team’s performance, suggesting they are “not ready to take the next step.”
He also commented on other aspects of the team’s play, noting that Kolo Muani “struggles when left alone in attack.” Woltemade’s introduction in the second half against Cagliari aimed to increase pressure on the opposition defence, but he was not described as being dangerous in front of goal.
The call for a new striker indicates a potential shift in Juventus’s transfer strategy for the winter window, as they look to strengthen their attacking options and provide more support for their key forwards.
