  • Holstein Kiel confirm safety from relegation with fourth straight victory
  • Eintracht Braunschweig face risk of dropping into the bottom three

Phil Harres fired Holstein Kiel to safety in the 2. Bundesliga with his first-ever brace for the club. The tall striker scored both goals in a hard-fought victory over Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday.

Manager Tim Walter’s side have now won four matches on the bounce. Harres has found the net four times during this impressive run. Last weekend, he set up Jonas Therkelsen for the winner against Hertha Berlin. The roles reversed after half an hour when Therkelsen played a one-two with Jonas Meffert before squaring for Harres to open the scoring.

Both teams threatened during the early exchanges. Johan Gomez struck the frame of the goal with a powerful effort for the visitors.

The second half produced further chances before Harres sealed the points in the 87th minute. The strike marked his ninth goal of the season and confirmed Kiel will avoid the drop.

Braunschweig remain in danger, however. They could slip into the bottom three depending on results elsewhere on Sunday.
