Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash between Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais is expected to mark the end of Habib Beye’s brief tenure as manager. According to reports from L’Équipe, the club has decided to part ways with the coach following a disappointing run of results.

Beye began the current campaign in charge of Rennes, but he lost that position in February. He swiftly returned to the dugout at Marseille, stepping in for Roberto De Zerbi. At the time of his appointment, the club held fourth place in the league table. The board gave him two clear objectives: secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League and guide the team to the Coupe de France final.

However, the former Senegal international has fallen short on both counts. Marseille will not feature in Europe’s premier club competition next term. Although they could still qualify for the UEFA Europa League on the final day, the campaign is viewed as a failure. The team has slipped to sixth position in the domestic standings, and relations within the club have become strained.

Sources indicate that Grégory Lorenzi will assume the role of sporting director this summer. The incoming official wants to appoint his own manager to lead the squad. This decision effectively seals Beye’s fate, bringing his short spell at the Stade Vélodrome to a close.
