RB Leipzig’s rising talent Yan Diomande has set his sights on joining football’s elite tier, drawing inspiration from some of Real Madrid’s greatest ever players.
The 19-year-old Ivorian winger, who has impressed during his first season in the Bundesliga, revealed that Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário served as his primary idols during his formative years.
Speaking at a media event attended by Bulinews.com on Wednesday, the teenager explained that he continues to study the world’s best attackers to refine his own game. He specifically highlighted the importance of watching Real Madrid’s current forwards Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé.
“I examine players who operate in my position so I can absorb their strengths and apply them during matches,” Diomande stated.
Despite his lofty ambition to become one of the top footballers across both Africa and Europe, the young attacker maintains a grounded approach to his development. He insists on progressing gradually whilst acknowledging his imperfections.
“I dedicate myself to daily improvement because I am far from flawless,” he admitted. “Even a one percent enhancement each day represents progress. I cannot afford to stop working hard since I continue to make errors, yet I possess clear objectives.”
The Leipzig newcomer praised the infrastructure at the German club, noting that the coaching staff provide excellent support for his growth both during training sessions and away from the pitch.
Diomande also discussed his mental approach to the game, explaining that he transforms external expectations into fuel for improvement. Rather than dwelling on disappointing performances, he chooses to analyse them briefly before shifting focus to future challenges.
“Pressure from supporters and colleagues can actually prove beneficial. You must battle against your own limitations,” he remarked.
“When you deliver a substandard display, you must accept it, move forward, and prepare diligently for the next opportunity. This season has included some difficult matches for me, but supporters recognise my commitment to fighting for the team. Results may vary daily, but maximum effort remains essential.”
