  • Frankfurt finish eighth in the Bundesliga and fail to secure European football
  • Riera departs after winning only four of his 14 matches in charge
  • Assistant coaches Pablo Remón Arteta and Lorenzo Dolcetti also leave the club
  • The German side describes the departure as a joint decision between both parties

German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have removed Albert Riera from his role as head coach. The announcement came on Sunday evening following a disappointing campaign where the team finished eighth in the table and failed to qualify for European competitions.

The Spanish manager joined the club in late January but enjoyed limited success during his brief spell. He oversaw 14 matches in total, recording four victories, five draws and five defeats. This run of form proved insufficient to lift Frankfurt into the continental qualification places.

Riera is not the only departure from the coaching staff. Two of his assistants, Pablo Remón Arteta and Lorenzo Dolcetti, will also exit the German club.

Markus Krösche, the club’s sporting director, explained the decision. He stated that both sides held intensive discussions before agreeing to end the partnership immediately. Krösche thanked Riera and his team for their dedication during a difficult period and for providing valuable ideas through their careful work.

However, Krösche added that an honest review of the team’s progress showed they needed a different direction for the next season. He wished all three coaches success in their future careers.

Riera accepted responsibility for the results. He stated that his only focus was to improve the squad and achieve victories. He explained that he felt a duty to protect the club and its players, and would make the same choices again. The coach maintained that personal interests never guided his decisions, and his primary goal was always to develop talent and secure success.
