Jonas Omlin has officially ended his brief spell in German football. The Switzerland international leaves Borussia Mönchengladbach to return to FC Basel with one year remaining on his previous agreement.

The goalkeeper moves back to his former club on a long-term deal. Basel have secured his services until the summer of 2029. This transfer marks a homecoming for the 32-year-old, who originally wore the Basel shirt between 2018 and 2020.

During that first spell at St. Jakob-Park, he won his first major trophy and earned promotion to the Swiss national team. Gladbach signed Omlin from French side HSC Montpellier in January 2023 for approximately €9 million. However, injuries and limited opportunities restricted him to just 36 matches for the Foals. This equates to a cost of roughly €250,000 per appearance.

Omlin expressed his happiness about the switch. “It feels a bit like coming home,” he stated. He looks forward to meeting the supporters at St. Jakob-Park again and using his experience to help the club challenge for titles.
