FC Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber has acknowledged “big market” interest in attackers Mert Kömür and Alexis Claude-Maurice, though he insists no concrete offers have arrived for either player.

The Bundesliga club faces a pivotal summer regarding its forward line, with both talents attracting significant attention from abroad. Weber suggests the ongoing World Cup has temporarily slowed transfer activity, but confirmed Augsburg currently intend to retain both players for the upcoming campaign.

Kömür seeks exit amid Brugge interest

Twenty-year-old Kömür is actively targeting a summer departure to secure more consistent playing time, having started just 16 of the 33 Bundesliga fixtures he featured in during the 2025/26 season. Despite being contracted until 2029, the attacker has grown frustrated with his rotational role.

Belgium currently appears the most likely destination should he leave. Both Sky and Kicker report that Club Brugge are monitoring the situation closely, while earlier links to AC Milan, FC Porto and Besiktas have yet to develop into firm proposals.

Claude-Maurice faces contract dilemma

French winger Claude-Maurice presents a more urgent situation for the club, with only 12 months remaining on his current agreement. He contributed five goals and four assists in the Bundesliga last term, form that has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in his homeland.

Augsburg must now decide whether to sell the attacker this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2026. With his contract expiring next year, the club holds limited leverage compared to Kömür’s long-term deal.

Weber: Players content for now

Despite the external noise, Weber maintains that neither player has requested to leave. He confirmed the club currently plans to use both next season, noting that Kömür “almost doubled his minutes” compared to the previous campaign while Claude-Maurice was “involved in lots of goals” during the second half of the year.

Weber views the interest as validation of Augsburg’s development model. He explained it is “very natural, normal and human” for players to consider their options when bigger contracts become available, but stressed that any departure would be on the club’s terms.

With the World Cup keeping the market relatively quiet, significant movement regarding either player may yet occur once the tournament concludes and clubs return their full attention to squad building.
