Hervé Koffi has confirmed his departure from SCO Angers and is set to leave RC Lens permanently this summer, despite holding a contract with the Ligue 1 club until 2028. The Burkina Faso international goalkeeper returns to his parent club after an impressive loan spell in the west of France, but financial restrictions at Angers and established competition at Lens have cleared his path to the exit.

Koffi announced his exit from Angers on Wednesday following a season on loan from Lens. The 27-year-old excelled between the posts for Le SCO, producing a string of commanding displays that stabilised their defence and prompted the club to explore a permanent acquisition. However, imposed financial constraints prevented Angers from converting the loan into a full transfer. Instead, they moved swiftly to secure Anthony Lopes on a free transfer, recruiting the experienced Portuguese goalkeeper after his contract expired at FC Nantes.

Limited opportunities at Lens

The situation leaves Koffi in limbo at Lens, where first-team opportunities appear severely limited. Robin Risser has established himself as the undisputed number one for Les Sang et Or during the previous campaign, effectively blocking Koffi’s route back into the starting eleven. Consequently, Lens have decided not to retain the Burkina Faso international this summer, opening the door for a permanent transfer two years before his deal expires.

According to L’Équipe, three clubs have already registered concrete interest in the goalkeeper. Koffi’s availability represents a significant opportunity for sides seeking a shot-stopper with proven Ligue 1 experience and international pedigree with the Stallions. His contractual status until 2028 means Lens can command a transfer fee, though the player’s desire for regular football may influence the final terms.

With the transfer window now open, Koffi’s representatives are expected to accelerate negotiations to secure his future. The Burkina Faso international will prioritise a move that guarantees first-team minutes, essential for maintaining his position with the national team ahead of upcoming international commitments. Lens, meanwhile, will hope to recoup value on a player who no longer figures in their immediate first-team plans.
