AS Monaco have finalised the acquisition of midfielder Aymen Assab from Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 club announced on Monday. The 17-year-old France U18 international joins on a free transfer after opting against signing his first professional contract with the Parisians.
Assab arrives at the Stade Louis II without having made a senior appearance for PSG, though he departs with significant youth honours. The midfielder featured prominently in the club’s UEFA Youth League campaign last season and helped the U19 side secure a domestic double, winning both the national U19 league and the Coupe Gambardella.
Direct path to the first team
Monaco have confirmed that Assab will begin his tenure by training with the senior squad rather than the academy. He is set to work with the first team this week, where he will be observed by new manager Filipe Luis. The Brazilian’s appointment was also formalised on Monday, meaning both the coach and the young midfielder start their respective chapters at the club simultaneously.
The duration of Assab’s contract with the Principality side has not been revealed. However, his capture represents a notable recruitment success for Monaco, who have secured an established France youth international without paying a transfer fee.
International pedigree
Assab has already earned recognition at international level, representing France with the U18 national team. His decision to relocate from the capital to the Côte d’Azur comes at a pivotal moment in his development as he seeks to break into senior professional football.
By integrating directly with the first team setup from the outset, Assab will hope to impress Luis and accelerate his progression ahead of the new campaign. The move allows him to continue his development within Ligue 1 whilst escaping the intense competition for places that characterises the PSG senior squad.
