1.FC Köln have made an approach to sign Inter Milan‘s 18-year-old forward Jamal Iddrissou, though their initial proposal was turned down by the Italian club, according to Sky Italia.

The Bundesliga 2 side, preparing for life in Germany’s second tier following last season’s relegation, enquired about a loan deal with an option to buy set between €7 million and €8 million. However, Inter rejected this structure. The Serie A club are unwilling to lose control of the Italy Under-19 international permanently and are instead demanding a buy-back clause be inserted into any agreement for the physically imposing striker.

Inter demand buy-back safeguards

Inter Milan have reportedly set the terms of any potential buy-back at €15 million should they wish to re-sign Iddrissou in 2027, rising to €18 million if they exercise the option in 2028. This model would allow Köln to secure the services of the right-footed forward initially, while giving Inter the right to bring him back to San Siro should he fulfil his potential in Germany.

It remains unclear whether Köln would accept such conditions. The arrangement would see them invest time and resources into developing a young talent, only to risk losing him back to Inter for a significantly higher fee after one or two seasons of progress. For a club seeking to rebuild its attacking options and mount a promotion challenge, this represents a significant strategic gamble that could undermine long-term squad planning.

Domestic and English competition intensifies

Köln face growing competition for Iddrissou’s signature. VfL Wolfsburg, who were also relegated to Bundesliga 2 last season and similarly seeking offensive reinforcements, are monitoring the situation closely. Meanwhile, Premier League club Brentford have registered interest in the teenager, potentially offering a pathway to English top-flight football.

With several clubs now circling the young striker, Köln must decide whether to meet Inter’s complex valuation structure or risk losing the player to domestic or English rivals who may offer more straightforward terms without restrictive buy-back clauses.

From Rossoneri to Nerazzurri

Iddrissou previously developed through the youth ranks at AC Milan, Inter’s city rivals, before making the switch to the Nerazzurri. The forward has demonstrated his scoring prowess at academy level and is now seeking regular first-team football to continue his development away from the pressures of Serie A.

His potential availability represents an opportunity for clubs seeking young attacking talent with proven pedigree at youth level, though Inter’s determination to retain a pathway back to San Siro complicates any prospect of a straightforward permanent transfer.
