Bayer Leverkusen have earmarked Como 1907 defender Álex Valle as a potential replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo following the Spain international’s confirmed transfer to Atlético Madrid. The Bundesliga champions are reportedly weighing up a bid in the region of €20 million for the former Barcelona academy graduate, according to Sport Bild.
The German club sanctioned Grimaldo’s move to the Spanish capital for a reported €25 million fee earlier in the window, creating an immediate priority to recruit a new left-back before the campaign begins. Valle has emerged as the favoured option to fill that position.
Valle profiled as successor
Valle, who progressed through the youth ranks at FC Barcelona before joining the Italian side, currently represents Spain at Under-21 level. The 21-year-old operates as an attacking full-back, combining defensive duties with an inclination to support forward play—traits that mirror those of his potential predecessor.
His development in Serie A has drawn attention from several European clubs. The reported €20 million valuation would represent a significant outlay for Leverkusen, albeit slightly lower than the fee received for Grimaldo.
Alternative targets
Should negotiations with Como prove problematic, Leverkusen have also noted FC Lorient defender Arsène Kouassi as a viable alternative. The French club reportedly value their left-back within a comparable bracket to Valle, giving Leverkusen flexibility in their approach to the market.
The search for Grimaldo’s replacement remains at an early stage, with Leverkusen currently evaluating both targets. No formal offer has been confirmed, and the club are expected to conduct further assessments before advancing with definitive negotiations for either player.
