Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign Noël Aséko for a fee of €12 million. The German U-21 international is expected to undergo a medical examination soon before completing his move to the club.

According to Sky Germany, the defensive midfielder is expected to sign a long-term contract running until 2030, with the option of an additional season. Crucially, BILD report that the deal reportedly does not include a buy-back clause for Bayern Munich, ensuring Frankfurt retain full control of the player’s future.

Rapid turnaround from Lower Saxony

The transfer represents a dramatic change in fortunes for the youngster, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Hannover 96 in the 2. Bundesliga. Hannover exercised a €1 million purchase option for Aséko following his temporary spell, only for Bayern to trigger their own €2.5 million buy-back option shortly afterwards.

Bayern’s decision to re-sign the player in June now appears to have been a strategic financial manoeuvre. The Bavarians stand to make a significant profit on the deal, having initially reacquired him for €2.5 million before selling him to Frankfurt for €12 million just weeks later. This represents a €9.5 million gain for the Munich club on a player who never appeared for their senior side during either of his spells at the club.

Midfield reinforcements

Aséko’s arrival will bolster Frankfurt’s midfield options as they prepare for the new Bundesliga campaign. The agreement marks the end of a negotiation process between the two clubs, with Frankfurt finally securing their target after achieving a breakthrough in talks.

The player will look to establish himself in the senior setup, having previously progressed through Bayern’s youth ranks without making a first-team appearance for the record champions. Frankfurt supporters will hope the young defensive midfielder can quickly adapt to life in the top flight and contribute to the club’s ambitions this season, adding depth to a squad competing on domestic and European fronts.

The fee underlines Frankfurt’s commitment to securing young talent with resale potential, whilst Bayern continue their policy of monetising academy prospects who struggle to break into their star-studded first team.
