Bedia Departs for Al Nasr

Chris Bedia has severed ties with 1.FC Union Berlin to join Al Nasr SC on a permanent deal. The UAE Pro League club formally confirmed the acquisition of the 30-year-old Ivorian forward, who has spent the previous 18 months on loan at Swiss champions BSC Young Boys.

The transfer draws a line under a turbulent period for the attacker in European football. Bedia initially arrived at the Bundesliga outfit from Servette Geneva in 2024, with Union Berlin investing €2 million to secure his services. However, the move quickly soured as the forward struggled to adapt to the demands of the German top flight.

Young Boys Loan Fails to Spark Permanent Switch

Unable to break into the starting eleven in Köpenick, Bedia was dispatched to BSC Young Boys shortly after his arrival. The Swiss Super League side incorporated a purchase option into the loan agreement, providing a potential pathway for a long-term switch to Bern. Nevertheless, Young Boys declined to activate that clause, leaving Bedia to return to his parent club.

With no clear route back into the Union Berlin squad, the Ivorian has elected to pursue opportunities outside Europe. The shift to the United Arab Emirates offers a clean break from the temporary arrangements that have defined his recent career trajectory.

Striker Seeks Consistent Role

Bedia reflected warmly on his brief association with the German club despite the lack of playing time. “I’m grateful for my time at Union, because even though it was very short, I always felt a lot of support,” he remarked. “After the last two years on loan, I’m now looking forward to a permanent position where I can take on consistent responsibility again.”

The move to Al Nasr represents Bedia’s first permanent transfer since his switch from Servette Geneva two years ago. During that intervening period, the forward has drifted between temporary assignments, unable to convince either Union or Young Boys to retain him on a full-time basis.

For Al Nasr, the signing adds an experienced attacking option to their roster as they compete in the UAE top division. Meanwhile, Union Berlin recoup resources from a player who never featured prominently in their plans, allowing both parties to move forward separately.
