Alex Jimenez has completed a loan move from Bournemouth to Fiorentina, with his contract officially deposited with Lega Serie A. The transfer comes after the 21-year-old was suspended by the Football Association in England amid an investigation into alleged inappropriate messages sent to a minor.

Transfer structure

The Serie A side have secured the versatile defender on a temporary basis until the end of the season, though the agreement contains an option to make the deal permanent. Reports suggest the buy clause is valued at approximately €20 million, which would also include a 30 per cent share of any future transfer fee for the player. It is understood this option would convert into an obligatory purchase should Jimenez reach 30 appearances for the Viola across all competitions.

Fiorentina have not yet formally announced the signing through their official channels, but the defender has already participated in his first pre-season training sessions in Florence.

England suspension

Jimenez’s departure from the Premier League follows a suspension imposed by the FA. The governing body launched an investigation after allegations emerged in May that the player had sent direct messages to a 15-year-old girl on social media. Screenshots were circulated online, prompting Bournemouth to drop him from the first-team squad pending enquiries.

In a statement issued at the time, the club said: “AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Alex Jiménez. The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated.”

The suspension remains active, preventing Jimenez from participating in domestic football in England. The move to Italy allows him to continue his career while the investigation proceeds.

Return to Serie A

This marks a second spell in Italian football for the full-back, who previously developed through the ranks at Milan. He represented the Rossoneri between 2023 and September 2025, making the switch to Bournemouth initially on loan with an obligation to buy for a reported €20 million total package. The deal became permanent before the current off-field situation forced his exit from English football.

Jimenez will now compete for a starting role under manager Raffaele Palladino as Fiorentina build towards the new campaign. The club will be monitoring his appearance count carefully given the contractual clause that could trigger a compulsory purchase.
