Aston Villa have ended speculation over Emiliano Martinez’s future after director of football operations Damian Vidagany confirmed the Argentina international will not be sold this summer. The statement deals a significant blow to Juventus, who had identified the shot-stopper as their primary target to strengthen the goalkeeping position.

Speaking to 365Scores, Vidagany dismissed rumours linking Martinez with a move to Turin. “Emiliano is a very important player for us, and he is a key element in Aston Villa,” he said. “All the talk about him leaving during the current summer transfer window is just rumours, and we rely on him heavily in the team’s project for next season.”

Vidagany left no room for doubt regarding the goalkeeper’s immediate future. “The goalkeeper’s future is settled; he is staying with us, and we have no intention of letting him go this summer,” he added. “The team needs his efforts and extensive experience, and he is a very important element in our project for next season.”

Juventus forced to seek alternatives

The Serie A side had positioned Martinez at the top of their summer shopping list as they prepare to overhaul their goalkeeping department. The club is planning to part ways with current number one Michele Di Gregorio and may also allow backup Mattia Perin to leave.

However, negotiations between the clubs stalled over valuation. Juventus were reportedly unwilling to pay more than €10 million to secure the Argentine’s services, a figure that fell short of Aston Villa’s expectations.

With the Premier League club now having closed the door on any departure, Juventus are expected to turn their attention elsewhere. Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario and Parma’s Zion Suzuki have emerged as alternative targets for the Bianconeri as they look to reinforce their options between the posts.

Despite reports suggesting Martinez had reached a preliminary agreement with Juventus and was open to the switch, Aston Villa’s decisive stance ensures the experienced keeper will remain at Villa Park for the upcoming campaign.
