Atalanta Step Up Negotiations

Atalanta have intensified talks with Kerim Alajbegovic as they attempt to secure the services of the Bosnia and Herzegovina winger ahead of rival suitors. The Bergamo club hope to convince the 18-year-old to join them before entering formal negotiations with his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen.

The teenager, who will turn 19 in September, recently returned to Leverkusen after the Bundesliga side activated an €8 million buy-back clause on 1 July. They had sold him to RB Salzburg for €2 million last summer but inserted the option anticipating his rapid development.

Salzburg Spell and International Impact

Alajbegovic enjoyed a sensational season in Austria, scoring 13 goals and registering four assists in 44 competitive matches for Salzburg. His performances helped elevate his status from promising youth to established first-team prospect.

His impact extended to the international stage, where he became a key figure for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alajbegovic scored decisive goals during the World Cup qualifying play-offs to help his country reach the finals. At the tournament itself, he started three of Bosnia’s four matches and netted a sensational solo goal that further showcased his attacking talent.

Serie A Rivals and Foreign Interest

While Atalanta are pushing to secure an advantage in negotiations, they face significant competition. Roma and Milan have also registered interest in signing the versatile attacker, while Napoli are monitoring developments within Italy.

The chase for Alajbegovic’s signature extends beyond Serie A. Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Sunderland are keeping tabs on the situation, as are La Liga side Real Betis. With Bayer Leverkusen now holding the player’s registration following the buy-back, the German club are positioned to field offers from across Europe.

Next Steps

Atalanta’s strategy of approaching Alajbegovic’s entourage directly reflects their desire to secure the player’s commitment before finalising terms with Leverkusen. However, with multiple clubs circling, the teenager faces a decision on where to continue his development ahead of the new season.
