Arsenal secure Tzolis signature
Arsenal have completed the signing of Greece international Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge in a €40 million deal. The winger has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions.
Tzolis arrives in north London after being named the Jupiler Pro League’s Player of the Season last term. The forward established himself as one of Europe’s most productive attackers during a prolific spell with Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he recorded 24 goals and 10 assists in just 37 appearances.
The Greek international initially joined Düsseldorf on loan from Norwich City before the German club secured his permanent services for €3.5 million. His performances in the 2. Bundesliga proved transformative—he finished as the division’s top scorer with 22 goals in the 2023-24 campaign—but could not secure promotion to the Bundesliga for the Düsseldorf faithful.
Fortuna miss out on financial windfall
Financial pressures forced Düsseldorf’s hand last summer. Without top-flight revenue, the club sold Tzolis to Club Brugge for only €6.5 million, a fraction of his current market value. The situation has since worsened for the German side, who suffered relegation to the 3. Liga last season—their first appearance in the third tier since 2009.
According to Sky, Fortuna Düsseldorf will not receive any payment from Tzolis’s transfer to Arsenal despite nurturing his development. The winger’s impact extended beyond league football; he scored a memorable panenka penalty during the DFB-Pokal semi-final shootout victory against St. Pauli, demonstrating composure under pressure that caught the attention of major European clubs.
The transfer caps a remarkable resurgence for Tzolis. After struggling to establish himself at Norwich City, the forward revitalised his career in Germany before earning recognition as Belgium’s finest player last season.
Gunners eye further reinforcements
At Arsenal, Tzolis will compete for a starting role in attack as the club aim to defend their Premier League crown. The Greece international offers versatility across the front line and a proven record of finding the net consistently in both the Belgian and German top flights.
In separate business, Arsenal are exploring a potential deal for RB Leipzig defender Yan Diomande. However, Paris Saint-Germain currently lead the race for the Ivory Coast international.
