Jadon Sancho is hopeful of sealing a return to Borussia Dortmund as a free agent and is prepared to accept a significant salary reduction to facilitate the move, according to Bild.

The winger recently became a free agent after his Manchester United contract expired, ending a five-year association with the Premier League club that began with an €85 million transfer from Dortmund. Now the former England international is eyeing a third spell at Signal Iduna Park, though he faces the prospect of a substantial pay cut to secure the deal.

Despite Sancho’s willingness to reduce his wages, Borussia Dortmund remain undecided over whether to pursue the signing. The Bundesliga side have yet to clarify their stance on reintegrating the attacker, who previously enjoyed a prolific spell with the club between 2017 and 2021 before his big-money switch to Old Trafford.

Sancho’s second departure from Manchester United follows a period of limited involvement. He last played regularly for the club during the 2022/23 campaign before embarking on a series of loan moves. During that time, he reached European finals with three different clubs, including a temporary return to Dortmund, a spell at Chelsea, and last season at Aston Villa, where he featured in 39 matches.

The possibility of a permanent transfer to Villa Park now appears remote. Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Alejandro Garnacho, a move that effectively ends Sancho’s hopes of remaining at the Midlands club following his loan stint there.

With his immediate future uncertain, Sancho awaits a decision from Dortmund regarding a potential reunion. The German club must weigh the benefits of bringing back a familiar figure against the financial and sporting implications of adding the free agent to their squad.
