Como have approached Moise Kean’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer as the Serie A club prepares for its first-ever Champions League campaign.
According to Sky Sport Italia, representatives from the Lombardy outfit contacted the Italy striker’s entourage to gauge his interest in joining the project. However, Como have not yet opened formal negotiations with Fiorentina, who hold the player’s contract until June 2029.
Squad requirements
The approach comes as Como face urgent squad-building challenges ahead of their European debut. Having competed in Serie B just two seasons ago, the club’s rapid ascent has left them short of Italian players required to meet UEFA homegrown quotas for the Champions League.
Kean, who has scored 13 goals in 26 senior appearances for the national team, would help address this shortfall while adding proven top-flight experience. The 26-year-old has moved regularly between major European clubs, including Juventus, Verona, Everton and Paris Saint-Germain, before joining Fiorentina in 2024. He is reportedly eager to secure Champions League football.
Contract and release clause
Any prospective deal faces significant financial complications. Kean’s contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi runs until 2029 and contains a €62 million release clause. However, this clause is only valid for clubs outside Italy between 1 and 15 July, meaning Como would need to negotiate directly with Fiorentina rather than trigger the exit mechanism.
The early-stage nature of the contact suggests formal talks between the clubs remain some way off. Como’s approach to Kean’s camp represents a preliminary step to establish whether the player would be open to the move before pursuing substantive discussions with Fiorentina over a potential transfer fee.
With the Champions League campaign fast approaching, Como must balance their need for domestic-qualified players against the financial demands of prising a contracted international away from a rival Serie A side.
