FC Augsburg have sanctioned a year-long loan that will see versatile attacker Elias Saad join Major League Soccer side Nashville SC for the 2026-27 MLS campaign. The Bundesliga club confirmed the cross-continental move through sporting director Benni Weber, who stressed the arrangement provides a vital opportunity for the Tunisia international to rebuild match fitness following a period of irregular club involvement.

Weber outlined the rationale behind sending the player to the United States ahead of the new season. “For Elias, the focus now is on regaining his match rhythm and accumulating as many playing minutes as possible. The MLS offers him a good opportunity to do this,” he stated. “We wish him every success for the upcoming season. Above all, we hope that he stays injury-free.”

Limited opportunities in Lower Saxony

The temporary transfer to Nashville follows a half-season stint in the 2. Bundesliga. Saad joined Hannover 96 on loan during the latter stages of the previous campaign, managing 13 appearances and contributing three assists for the Lower Saxony outfit. The limited game time accrued during that spell appears to have influenced Augsburg’s decision to seek an alternative temporary destination where the versatile attacker might feature more regularly.

The attacker’s recent schedule also included international duty at the highest level. Saad formed part of the Tunisian national team squad at the World Cup, featuring in matches against Sweden and Japan. His involvement on the global stage contrasts sharply with his struggle to establish himself as a consistent starter in German domestic football.

Long-term Bavarian commitment continues

Despite this latest departure, Saad remains firmly within Augsburg’s long-term plans. The player is under contract at the Bavarian club until June 2029, a commitment that extends well beyond the upcoming MLS season and into the next decade. This lengthy agreement suggests the switch to Nashville forms part of a calculated development strategy rather than a step toward a permanent separation.

The 2026-27 campaign in North America offers Saad a platform to establish consistent form and demonstrate his durability over an extended period. With several years remaining on his Augsburg deal, a productive spell with Nashville could yet pave the way for reintegration into the Bundesliga fold when the loan period concludes and he returns to Bavaria.
