Fiorentina have announced the signing of defender Alex Jimenez on a season-long loan from Bournemouth, with the Serie A club securing an option to make the transfer permanent. The Italy-based side confirmed the arrival of the Spain Under-21 international on Tuesday, adding competition at full-back ahead of the new campaign.

According to reports, the purchase option is set at approximately €20 million. The 2005-born defender expressed his enthusiasm upon completing the move, stating: “They wanted me 100%, I’m happy to be here.”

From Madrid to Florence via Milan

Born in Leganés, Jimenez developed through Real Madrid’s academy before crossing paths with Italian football for the first time. He established himself in Serie A with Milan, accumulating 26 league appearances alongside six outings in the Coppa Italia. He also featured twice in the Supercoppa Italiana, collecting a winner’s medal during the Rossoneri’s 2024/25 triumph.

Bournemouth signed him permanently from Milan in January, but his stay on the south coast proved brief. Jimenez recorded one goal across 31 Premier League appearances last season. His campaign ended under suspension due to an investigation into Instagram messages sent by the player.

Viola strengthen defensive options

Jimenez arrives to bolster manager Fabio Grosso’s squad as part of a busy transfer window at the Artemio Franchi. Fiorentina have already secured the signatures of Radu Drăgușin and Arthur Atta, with the club positioning itself to challenge on multiple fronts this season.

The arrangement with Bournemouth gives Fiorentina flexibility. Should the player impress during his loan spell, the Viola can activate the clause to secure his services on a permanent basis. If not, he will return to England when the season concludes.
