Fiorentina are preparing to hold formal talks with Sassuolo regarding the transfer of midfielder Kristian Thorstvedt. Representatives from both Serie A clubs are scheduled to meet on Friday to discuss the terms of a potential deal that would see the Norway international reunite with former coach Fabio Grosso.

Sassuolo have set an asking price of approximately €15 million for the 25-year-old, according to reports from Sky Sport Italia and Tuttomercatoweb. Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici has already held preliminary discussions with Thorstvedt’s agent regarding personal terms, though the two clubs must still negotiate the financial structure of any transfer.

The Viola may attempt to reduce the cash outlay by including Swiss midfielder Simon Sohm in the exchange. Sohm has recently returned to Florence following a loan spell at Bologna and could be used as a makeweight to satisfy Sassuolo’s demands while balancing Fiorentina’s books.

Reunion with Grosso

The potential transfer carries particular significance given Thorstvedt’s history with Grosso. The Norwegian midfielder previously flourished under the Italian coach during their time together at Sassuolo, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in the side. Grosso’s subsequent move to the Stadio Artemio Franchi has naturally fuelled speculation about a reunion, with Fiorentina now actively pursuing the deal.

However, Fiorentina face competition from abroad for Thorstvedt’s signature. Turkish club Besiktas have also expressed interest in the midfielder, potentially setting up a bidding war should they formalise their approach.

Thorstvedt’s immediate focus remains on international duty. The midfielder is currently participating in the World Cup with Norway and is preparing for a Round of 16 clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil on Sunday. His involvement in the tournament means any transfer is unlikely to be completed until after Norway’s campaign concludes, though the groundwork is being laid for a swift conclusion once he returns.

The move would represent a significant addition to Fiorentina’s midfield ranks, allowing Thorstvedt to continue his development under a manager who has already extracted the best from him.
