Hamburger SV have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Martin Adeline from ESTAC Troyes for a fee of €4 million plus bonuses. The 22-year-old Frenchman is expected to undergo a medical shortly before signing a contract that will run until 2030, according to Sky Germany.
Adeline arrives from France’s second tier having played a central role in Troyes’ promotion to Ligue 1 last season. The attacking midfielder contributed 10 goals and 11 assists in 32 league appearances, demonstrating the creative output that has attracted the Bundesliga side. His departure represents a significant loss for Troyes despite their return to the top flight, though the transfer fee provides substantial compensation as they prepare for life in the higher division.
The signing follows the return of Fábio Vieira to Arsenal after the Portuguese midfielder’s loan spell concluded. Reports differ on how the two situations connect. Bild indicates that Adeline is viewed as the immediate successor to Vieira, who proved influential during his temporary stay. However, Sky Germany states that the Adeline transfer is completely separate from Hamburger SV’s continued efforts to secure Vieira on a permanent basis. Those negotiations with Arsenal remain ongoing without agreement.
Hamburger SV initially tabled around €10 million for Vieira but found that figure well below Arsenal’s asking price. The move for Adeline offers a cost-effective alternative with considerable potential, given the Frenchman’s age and productive season in Ligue 2.
The player will now complete his medical to finalise the switch. Once cleared, he will join the squad as they prepare for the new campaign, adding fresh competition in midfield regardless of whether Vieira eventually returns.
