Inter have opened negotiations with Union Saint-Gilloise regarding the transfer of Israeli winger Anan Khalaili. The Serie A champions are prepared to meet a reported asking price of €25 million plus a further €5 million in performance-related bonuses, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The move signals a shift in strategy for the Milan club as they prepare for life without Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch defender is widely expected to complete a transfer to Real Madrid, leaving a vacancy on Inter’s right flank. Sporting directors initially identified Atalanta’s Marco Palestra as the primary target, allocating €50 million for that operation. Those plans collapsed when Chelsea submitted a superior offer worth roughly €10 million more, coupled with personal terms double what Inter could propose.

Khalaili emerges as a cost-effective alternative with proven European experience. The 21-year-old moved to Belgium from Maccabi Haifa for €6.5 million in 2024 and quickly adapted to the demands of continental football. During his debut campaign with Union Saint-Gilloise, he registered six goals and six assists across 52 appearances in all competitions. Crucially, he demonstrated his ability against high-calibre opposition by scoring in the Champions League against both Olympique Marseille and Atalanta.

Napoli had previously positioned themselves as frontrunners for the winger’s signature. However, Financial Fair Play regulations have complicated their pursuit. The Partenopei must sell existing squad members before the club can authorize new purchases, creating a delay that Inter have exploited. With no such constraints hindering their progress, the Nerazzurri have established direct contact with the Belgian outfit and advanced discussions significantly.

The Israel international, who turns 22 in September, appears amenable to the switch. Reports indicate that his wage expectations align with Inter’s current structure, removing a potential stumbling block that complicated negotiations for Palestra. For Union Saint-Gilloise, the proposed fee represents an exceptional return on investment less than twelve months after acquiring the player. Inter hope to conclude proceedings swiftly to integrate Khalaili into their squad before the transfer window closes.
