Inter Milan have officially loaned midfielder Kristjan Asllani to Al Jazira Club, the UAE Pro League side confirmed on Saturday. The 24-year-old Albania international moves to Abu Dhabi on a temporary basis as he seeks to revive his career following a fragmented spell in Italian football.
Asllani initially joined Inter from Empoli in the summer of 2022 for a fee of €15.7 million. During his three years at the San Siro, he found regular first-team opportunities limited under successive managers Simone Inzaghi and Cristian Chivu. Across his time with the Nerazzurri, the midfielder made 99 appearances in all competitions, contributing four goals and five assists.
The 2025-26 campaign proved particularly unsettled for the player. He initially joined Torino on loan but saw that spell terminated in January 2026. He subsequently moved to Turkish giants Besiktas, though that stint also brought limited success. These disjointed experiences restricted his development and effectively ended his prospects of establishing himself in Inter’s midfield heading into the new season.
Loan terms and contract situation
The agreement with Al Jazira is understood to be a dry loan, meaning the Abu Dhabi club does not hold an option to purchase the player permanently at the season’s end. Asllani remains contracted to Inter until June 2028, giving the Italian club limited leverage in future negotiations.
Inter had hoped to sell the Albania international outright during the current transfer window to raise funds for other targets. However, a lack of concrete interest from European clubs forced the Serie A side to accept another temporary arrangement instead.
What next for Asllani?
For Asllani, the move represents an opportunity to secure regular playing time and rebuild his reputation outside Europe. Should he perform well in the UAE Pro League, he may attract permanent offers before his Inter contract enters its final years. Otherwise, the Milanese club risk facing another difficult decision regarding the player’s future when he returns in 2027.
