Veteran winger Ivan Perisic is reportedly eager to seal a return to Inter Milan this summer, four years after his departure from the Serie A giants. The 37-year-old Croatian international, currently under contract with PSV Eindhoven until the end of the season, could formally request an early exit from the Dutch club to facilitate a move back to San Siro.
World Cup Displays Spur Interest
Italian media report that Perisic’s performances for Croatia at the 2026 World Cup demonstrated he retains the physical condition and quality to contribute at elite level. Rather than waiting for his PSV deal to expire, the versatile wingback appears ready to push for an immediate transfer to secure regular football in a familiar environment.
Inter’s interest is not new. The club reportedly approached PSV regarding Perisic’s availability in January 2026, only to be rebuffed by the Eredivisie champions. Whether PSV would now entertain a mid-season or summer departure for the experienced campaigner remains to be seen, particularly given their own domestic and European ambitions.
San Siro History and Tactical Fit
Perisic previously enjoyed two productive spells with the Nerazzurri, initially between 2015 and 2019 before returning for another stint that ended in 2022. Sandwiched between these periods was a successful loan at Bayern Munich. Across his time in Milan, he amassed 254 competitive appearances, scoring 55 goals and providing 50 assists.
He departed for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer in July 2022, later featuring for Hajduk Split prior to his 2024 switch to PSV. Were he to rejoin Inter, Perisic would primarily provide cover for Federico Dimarco on the left, though his capacity to play on the right offers valuable flexibility as the club seeks alternatives to Denzel Dumfries in that position.
Negotiation Challenges Ahead
Any prospective deal hinges on Perisic formally requesting his release and Inter agreeing terms with PSV. Given the player’s contract expires imminently, a nominal fee might suffice, though his salary demands and the reduced playing time he would likely accept as a squad rotation option require careful management by the Italian club’s hierarchy.
