VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed that goalkeeper Marius Müller has completed a transfer to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen. The 33-year-old departs the Bundesliga outfit after a two-year spell during which he made eight competitive appearances.

Müller served as the understudy to first-choice keeper Kamil Grabara throughout his time at the Autostadt club. The experienced German began his professional career at 1.FC Kaiserslautern before spells at FC Schalke 04 and eventually Wolfsburg, where he found opportunities limited in the starting eleven.

Schwegler confirms departure

Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler confirmed the move was agreed upon following honest discussions about the player’s situation. “Marius has fully identified with VfL Wolfsburg from day one,” Schwegler said.

“We openly discussed his current sporting prospects and jointly concluded that the move to Aberdeen is the right step for both sides. We thank Marius for his commitment in the VfL jersey and wish him all the best for his future, both professionally and personally.”

Goalkeeping reshuffle

The transfer leaves Wolfsburg with Grabara firmly established as the club’s number one, with the club now assessing their options for backup goalkeeping cover. For Aberdeen, the signing represents a significant addition of experience, bringing in a goalkeeper who has operated at Bundesliga level despite limited playing time in recent seasons.

Müller’s eight appearances for Wolfsburg came largely in cup competitions or as substitute appearances during his two-year stay. The move to Scotland offers the 33-year-old a chance to reignite his career with regular first-team football, while Wolfsburg trim their squad following the agreement.
